In a discussion captured on a HireArt webinar, Co-Founders Nick Sedlet and Chris Brower highlighted how current industry practices often result in frustration due to a lack of visibility and control when managing contract workforce programs. These challenges are compounded by the complexity of managing data across various disparate systems, and happens to be one of the core problems HireArt is addressing.
HireArt uses “vertically integrated employment” to refer to a platform solution with fully embedded employment and tools to manage one’s own contract workforce program. In their full conversation, Sedlet and Brower share insights into the unique challenges facing the industry and why vertically integrated employment is the answer. Three key takeaways from the webinar are summarized below.
An important aspect in the ongoing effort to improve the contract workforce management experience is the handling of data. Even today it is uncommon for contract workforce data to be centralized into a single repository. Staffing vendors are normally the owners of such data, which each have their own respective silos. Managed service providers (MSP) attempt to aggregate it as part of their services, but because they don’t own it, they rely on collaboration with the various staffing agencies to keep their systems of record up to date.
The fragmented nature of contract workforce data makes it difficult for employers to gain a comprehensive and coherent view of their entire contract workforce, which contributes to an overall lack of transparency as well as process friction.
Technology in the contract workforce management space has struggled to keep up with the pace of modern consumer applications. This is largely due to challenges in managing data (as described above), but also on the industry’s continued usage of outdated service solutions.
The MSP is a prime example, and is still a common answer for managing contract workforce programs. It is a service-heavy model that relies on people to drive tasks manually in lieu of the automated capabilities of modern technology solutions.
The complexity of managing a contract workforce program has historically called for multiple point solutions for recruiting, onboarding, and management. Implementation introduces a lot of hidden complexity and time lost.
When the employer of record is also the system of record, great software can be built around it to automate tasks and provide integrated tool sets needed to drive critical tasks. Significant strides in technology, even compared to just five years ago, make this possible.
At HireArt, we believe this represents a fundamental shift in how contract workforces are managed. By centralizing data and control, companies can achieve greater efficiency, better workflows, and a more satisfying experience for hiring managers and workers alike.
